The DELE (Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language) is an official title accrediting the Spanish domain in the world, whatever the chosen center or the method of studies carried out by the student. The diploma is awarded by the Cervantes Institute and has an indefinite validity and international recognition.

The DELE diplomas (Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language) are recognized internationally as accreditation of the level of the Spanish language.

They are a guarantee in the evaluation and assessment of language skills in the Spanish language. The recognition by official institutions, education and private companies make the DELE title suitable for:

  • Professional promotion and job offers.
  • Access to studies in public and private centers.
  • Obtaining Spanish nationality.
  • Presentation to opposition tests to public position

Levels of Spanish to obtain the DELE title

The DELE exams are designed following the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) of the Council of Europe, which guarantees a practical way of establishing an international standard and objective measurement of the level to be reached at each stage of teaching and in the evaluation of results.

The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) of the Council of Europe establishes a series of levels for all the languages ​​from which the comparison or homologation of the different titles issued by the certified entities is favored.

The DELE A1 level accredits the student to:

  • Access the Spanish-speaking world, improve your academic training and give you confidence to continue advancing in the rest of the certifications.
  • To develop with an elementary language in situations of communication that have to do with immediate needs or with very daily topics.

The DELE A1 exam consists of four tests that cover reading, writing and communication skills:

  • Reading comprehension (45 minutes)
  • Written expression and interaction (25 minutes).
  • Listening comprehension (20 minutes)
  • Oral expression and interaction (15 minutes).

The DELE A2 level certifies that the candidate is:

  • Able to understand frequently used everyday phrases and expressions related to areas of experience that are especially relevant to him (basic information about himself and his family, purchases, places of interest, occupations, etc.).

The DELE A2 exam consists of different tests:

  • Reading comprehension (60 minutes).
  • Written expression and interaction (50 minutes).
  • Listening comprehension (35 minutes).
  • Oral expression and interaction (15 minutes).

The DELE B1 level accredits the language user’s ability to:

  • Understand the main points of clear texts and in standard language if they deal with issues that are known to you, whether in work, study or leisure situations.
  • Get on well in most situations that may arise during a trip through areas where the language is used.
  • Produce simple and coherent texts on topics that are familiar to him or in which he has a personal interest.
  • Describe experiences, events, desires and aspirations, as well as briefly justify their opinions or explain their plans.

The examination of the DELE B1 level consists of four parts:

  • Reading comprehension test (70 min)
  • Written expression and interaction test (60 min)
  • Listening test (40 min)
  • Oral expression and interaction test (15 min + 15 min of preparation)

The DELE B2 level accredits the ability of the user of the language to:

  • Interact with native speakers with a sufficient degree of fluency and naturalness, so that the communication is carried out without effort on the part of the interlocutors.
  • Produce clear and detailed texts on different topics, as well as defend a point of view on general topics, indicating the pros and cons of the different options.
  • Understand the main ideas of complex texts that deal with both concrete and abstract issues, even if they are of a technical nature, provided they are within their field of specialization.

The examination of the DELE B2 level consists of four parts:

  • Reading comprehension test (70 min)
  • Written expression and interaction test (80 min)
  • Listening test (40 min)
  • Oral expression and interaction test (20 min + 20 min of preparation)

The C1 DELE level guarantees sufficient linguistic competence to:

  • Understand a wide variety of extensive texts and with a certain level of demand, as well as recognize implicit meanings in them.
  • Knowing how to express oneself in a fluid and spontaneous way without obvious signs of effort to find the right expression.
  • To be able to make flexible and effective use of the language for social, academic and professional purposes.
  • And be able to produce clear, well structured and detailed texts on topics of certain complexity, showing a correct use of the mechanisms of organization, articulation and cohesion of the text.

The DELE C1 exam consists of four tests:

  • Understanding of reading and use of the language (90 minutes).
  • Listening comprehension and use of the language (50 minutes).
  • Integrated skills Auditory comprehension and written expression and interaction (80 minutes).
  • Integrated skills Reading comprehension and oral expression and interaction (20 minutes) (and 20 minutes of preparation).

The DELE level C2 is the diploma of linguistic competence of the Spanish equivalent to the level of Masters (C2), the sixth of the six levels proposed in the scale of the Common European Framework of Reference for the languages ​​of the Council of Europe.

The DELE level C2 accredits the necessary linguistic competence to:

  • To develop in any situation with total efficiency, showing a spontaneous ability to adapt to any context, with a high degree of precision.
  • Show a subtle domain of the nuances that give natural fluidity to all its interventions.

The DELE C2 level exam consists of three tests:

  • Test 1: Use of the language, reading comprehension and listening (105 minutes).
  • Test 2: Integrated skills: listening and reading comprehension and written expression and interaction (150 minutes).
  • Test 3: Integrated skills: reading comprehension and oral expression and interaction (20 minutes) (and 30 minutes of preparation).
